Trace Route

Trace Route displays the nodes (IP addresses) located between our servers and your browser, and response times from these various systems. These types of traces are useful diagnostics to determine why a network is not responding, is slow, or otherwise not performing as expected.

Note that tracing from your system to us may reveal different results than if we trace to you. This is termed asymmetric routing. It means that packets do not necessarily travel along the same nodes in both directions.

SecuritySpace has 3 distinct monitoring locations, UK, USA and Canada. The report shown when you run a trace will actually show 3 separate traces to your system, one from each location.

You should note that some firewalls and IDS systems may interpret traceroute packets as a malicious port scan. Traceroute uses UDP packets with differing destination ports (in the range of 33434-33464). Contrary to what your firewall or IDS may say, this is not a port scan.

Be patient - the trace may take a while to complete if your system is firewalled.
